About the series

We publish research because the questions we work on have no settled answers yet.

The ExploreXtraordinaire Research Series examines a single, unfolding shift: as artificial intelligence absorbs the work of execution, the value of human capacity moves upstream — toward originality, judgment, voice, and the ability to defend an idea in real time.

Each report synthesizes neuroscience, labor market data, assessment research, and global education policy into positions institutions can act on. They are written for heads of school, curriculum leaders, ministries, and partners building programs for students who will spend their working lives alongside machines.

All reports are published open-access. Strategic partners receive each report ahead of public release.

The Reports

Written work can no longer be trusted as evidence of learning. Universities worldwide — Cornell, Penn, NYU, UC San Diego, Dartmouth, and all 203 Australian higher education institutions — are shifting toward requiring students to defend their thinking aloud, in real time. This report maps that shift and the measurable readiness gap it exposes among high-achieving students trained to optimize for the written exam.

Why it emerges in every child, erodes through conventional schooling, and can be restored through structured arts education at any age. At age five, 98% of children score at genius level for divergent thinking; by fifteen, 12% do. This is not a talent problem. It is a structure problem.

Why creative arts education in the earliest years is the highest-leverage human-development investment of the AI era. The developmental window is biological and time-limited: the brain's architecture for divergent thinking, symbolic reasoning, and emotional expression is physically built in the first years of life. And the children who would benefit most are precisely the ones receiving the least.
